The Law of Attraction is not the same as the Psychology of Positive Thoughts or even just simply positive thinking. While they may seem similar and even after I finish my explanation you may say, “Yes, so I don’t see the difference” and I’ll warn you, the difference is as subtle.
Before we look at the difference between these two things it’s important to understand the power of words. Because while we can agree that two words mean the same thing, sometimes it is the intention or tone that creates a different meaning, and sometimes it’s geography or circumstance.
Positive Thinking is a decision to recognize adversity and put a positive spin on the past, present moment and future when thinking about an unfortunate or disliked thing.
The Law of Attraction isn’t involved in good vs. bad or right vs. wrong or even pleasure vs. pain. The law of attraction is always working, and is always setting results into action as we attract with our awareness moments into our life.
Now positive thinking can be a tool used to change your perspective and therefore change what you’re attracting, but they aren’t the same. One is a mindset and one is (for lack of a better word) a chain reaction of vibration.
The easiest way to life the life of your dreams is to be in alignment with your dreams.
That means, you need to do a little heavy lifting when it comes to your day dreams and stop just wishing you had more money.
Yeah, I get it. Money is awesome. Money makes everything easier… but money (like positive thinking) is just a tool.
A tool is something that you use to build other things.
Like a hammer. A hammer is a tool. We use hammers to build houses… and I don’t think anyone would ever misunderstand the hammer as the goal. The house is clearly the goal. Money is like that. Money isn’t the goal, but the hammer.
So, when I said you need to do a little heavy lifting when it comes to your day dreams what I meant was you were going to have to dig a little deeper and really tap into your inner guidance and authentic self. Ask yourself the tough questions like: If anything were possible and I could create my dream job right now, what would I be doing? Or If I could retire right now, where would I live, what would I do?
Most people give themselves a few moments to day dream about their perfect abundant life, then go back to worrying about paying the bills or driving kids to soccer, because they can’t imagine how their life will ever change, they start to tell themselves, they don’t have time, they don’t have the degree… they don’t, they can’t, they won’t.
You see, the Law of Attraction takes care of A LOT, mostly it is in charge of placing you in the right place at the right time, it is in charge of pushing the opportunities that match your alignment into your perception. It is up to you, to take advantage of the opportunities. It is up to you to be aware, to pay attention. To listen to your inner guidance.
Often we block our path with a cloudy or unclear vision for our future. If you want to try your hand at tapping into the universe pick one thing that you want. A new car, a new job, a new house… and start to think about it in a way to seems very real.
Imagine a car, for instance, in your driveway. Think about going out your front door, hopping in and driving it to work. Think about how nice it is to drive and how great it smells and how well it runs. Think about the compliments you’ll get from friends and family. Imagine everything except, exactly HOW you got the car. Leave the “How” up to the universe. Spend some time day dreaming about that car, it’s color, it’s make, it’s model… for a few weeks. Then when you have had fun with it and really know down to the interior color what you want… let it go.
I used this method to manifest a brand new mini van about 5 years ago.
The funny part is, that I did the exercises for about 2 weeks and then let it go. Less than a year later I was walking out my front door to take the kids to school and I was overcome with this sense of déjà vu… and I realized that I had manifested my minivan. Yeah, 2 months before the déjà vu I had bought a new minivan, they told my old one in and gave me a great deal and the funny thing was that I never realized it was exactly what I wanted. Exactly what I had spent 2 weeks thinking about and it wasn’t until I was standing at the door… just like in my visualization at just the right time of day, at just the right parked angle in my driveway that I recognized my daydream.
So yeah, it works. And it’s not about positive thinking, it’s about visualization and releasing your need to know “how” and just allowing the universe to do the work.
